Dehydrating removes moisture to preserve food. Use a food dehydrator or a low-temperature oven.
• Dehydrator
• Wash and prepare the food (e.g., fruits, vegetables, or meats) by slicing them evenly to ensure uniform drying.
• Set the dehydrator to the desired temperature based on the food type (typically 125–145°F or 52–63°C).
• Arrange the prepared food on the dehydrator trays in a single layer without overcrowding.
• Turn on the dehydrator and let it run for the recommended time, typically ranging from 6–12 hours, depending on the food and desired dryness.
• Check the food occasionally for dryness, ensuring it’s not over-dried or under-dried.
• Once the food is fully dehydrated and crispy, turn off the dehydrator and remove the trays.
• Let the food cool before storing it in airtight containers to preserve its shelf life.
• Step 1: Allow the dehydrator and trays to cool completely before cleaning.
• Step 2: Rinse the trays with warm water to remove any food residue. For sticky foods, soak the trays for 30 minutes before washing.
• Step 3: Wash the dehydrator trays with warm, soapy water and a soft sponge. Avoid using abrasive materials that may scratch the trays.
• Step 4: Wipe down the dehydrator’s exterior and control panel with a damp cloth, avoiding any water getting into the electronic components.
• Step 5: Dry thoroughly before reassembling and storing the dehydrator.
